| Image Title: Become One | Artist: Alonzo Edwards | View all images by this person At the Genesee Area Skill Center (GASC) in Flint, Michigan, I received proper college preparatory skills that awarded a scholarship to attend the College for Creative Studies (CCS) in Detroit, Michigan.
After my third year at CCS, God allowed me to continue my education in Florence, Italy for a semester abroad. Studying in Italy provided me with a different perspective of the world (as well as the “art world”), which has enhanced my perceptions in my own art.
Following my semester in Italy, I returned to CCS to finish my undergraduate studies, and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts the field of Illustration with a 3.5 cumulative GPA. I believe that God will help me find a way to launch the art business that my twin brother, Brennon Edwards, and I are working to start called Fraternal Easels. He and I will be distributing my artwork, as well as other gifted artists, to the masses around the country. Our ultimate goal is to spread the word of God through art.
I believe that my purpose is to use my God-given talent and visions to interpret His messages into imagery that will impact perceptions of people. I have started an ongoing biblical series, taking stories from the Bible and illustrating them in a way that emphasizes the power they contain. In addition, I make controversial pieces where I strive to evoke strong emotion in my viewers by bringing light to issues – past or present – in hope of enlightening or possibly motivating them to bring change to societal problems. A challenge that I struggle with, is racially integrating my work and target audience. My goal is to spread God’s word to any and everyone, regardless of race or background.
